NGUYEN

Please introduce yourself.
Hello, my name is Nguyen. I’m from Vietnam and currently a first-year student who started in the Fall 2025 semester.

How did you learn about NUCB? What made you choose the Global BBA (GBBA) program? How was the application process?
I learned about NUCB through a seminar held at my school. After that, I started researching more about the university and the programs offered. I have always wanted to study business, so I didn’t hesitate to choose GBBA. I learned about the university a bit late, so I only had one month to prepare my application, but everything went smoothly afterward.

What is your favorite class so far, and why?
My favorite class is Critical Thinking taught by Professor Ricardo Lim. I learned how to think critically, broaden my perspectives, and view things from multiple angles instead of focusing only on what I think is right.

Are you participating in any clubs or language exchange programs?
I am a member of the publishing club “がく SAY!”. I am also taking Japanese language classes at the university, and I can feel that my listening and speaking skills are gradually improving.

What do you think about the diversity at NUCB?
The environment here is very diverse. I get to meet people from countries I had only heard about online before. Thanks to that, I’ve learned many things from different cultures and made many new friends from all over the world.

ANDY

Please introduce yourself.
I’m Andy, from Vietnam. I started my first year in the GBBA program last fall, and I’ve been living in Japan for almost three years now.

What is your impression of the case study method? Did you experience this type of learning in high school?
The case study method is a very unique and engaging way of learning, completely different from anything I experienced before. It’s exciting to actively participate in discussions instead of just sitting and listening. In high school—especially in the IB program—I did have to prepare for some classes, but never to this extent.

Have you participated in an internship or the CAPI (Career Advancement Program International)?
Yes. This February, I had the opportunity to do an internship in Malaysia as part of the CAPI program I joined. It was a very fun and memorable experience, and it’s great that NUCB invests so much in helping students plan and prepare for their future careers.

Are you joining any clubs or language exchange activities?
I’m a member of the university’s Judo Club. It’s an amazing place to train both physically and mentally. Not only do you learn a new skill, but you also get the chance to build meaningful relationships.

In your opinion, what kind of students thrive at NUCB?
Unlike many schools where knowledge is delivered in a structured way and students are expected to be “academically perfect,” NUCB uses real-world examples through the case study method. So I believe students who have strong social awareness, critical thinking skills, and life experience tend to have an advantage over those who are considered traditionally “book-smart.”

KRISTEN

Why did you choose Japan and NUCB as your study destination?
At first, I planned to study in the U.S. with my friends, but because my family runs a food-related business with many close connections in Japan, we decided that Japan would be the ideal place for me to study business. I had also studied Japanese in Vietnam, then continued at Tokyo University of Social Welfare and achieved JLPT N2.

I was accepted into another university in Beppu, but after learning more, I discovered NUCB. When I saw that the school is AACSB-accredited and offers a fully English-taught program using the case study method, I knew right away that this was where I wanted to study business.

In Vietnam, learning is mostly theory-based and evaluated through final exams. I believe the case study method helps me learn from real-world situations, which is very beneficial for my family business. For example, one of my favorite classes is Organizational Management taught by Professor Law.

This course helps us understand how to manage an organization, focusing on the value chain system. One memorable session was our discussion on the Abercrombie & Fitch case and its “exclusive” strategy.

Are you currently working part-time?
Yes. I’m currently running my own business in fashion and accessories, and I also work in the student support department at my former Japanese language school.

Lastly, what do you think about Nagoya?
I really like Nagoya. The city isn’t as crowded as Tokyo or Osaka, and the atmosphere is quite pleasant. Since I’m a big foodie, I love exploring and searching for the best ramen shops!

NAOKI

Naoki enrolled in the Global BBA program in Fall 2020 after completing A-Levels at an international school in Vietnam. He holds both Japanese and Vietnamese nationalities, but has spent most of his life in Vietnam and only visits Japan occasionally on family trips.

Why did you choose Japan to continue your studies?
Japan is well known for its high-quality education system, and studying here is a great opportunity to gain deeper insights into the field of business. I also wanted to experience Japanese culture and travel around the country outside of study time.

What do you like most about NUCB?
I think the diversity of students and faculty is one of the best things about NUCB. I enjoy meeting people from all over the world and expanding my network. I also like how close and approachable both students and professors are here.

What has been your favorite class so far?
My favorite class is Financial Management because it is extremely useful. Through the Case Study method and real-world examples, we learned how companies use financial tools effectively. This class inspired me to dive deeper into the financial aspect of business and helped shape my future direction.

What are your future plans?
I’m considering joining an international exchange program in 2023 with one of NUCB’s partner universities because I want to travel and experience more countries. Studying in Japan has helped me understand how businesses operate here, but I want to diversify myself and stay open to every opportunity.
